Slow Down and Live

On my way to Pittsburgh with a U-Haul packed full of my stuff, I noticed a sign on the dash that reads:

SPEED KILLS
Slow Down and Live

At first I took the message as intended, and thought little of it. Later I reflected on the second line alone, taken out of its context, and I really like it. A gentle reminder that life should to be lived and not rushed through.
I have much to accomplish today and my day probably won't end until well into the night. But even as I do handle my responsibilities I do plan to Slow Down and Live.

Everything's Back!

Over the past few weeks (months?) I've been thinking about dusting off this blog.  A lot has changed in the world of Cate since the last post, and I feel a little sheepish about not keeping up with the blog.  After all, you all want to know Everything Cate, right?

One of the hang-ups I had was that I changed pretty drastically after the world of Travel Hashing collided with my own.  That collision made me realize that there were more fun and exciting things to do with my life than train and race.  Almost overnight (well, over the course of an amazing week, actually) I started down the path to giving up racing.

Not too long after that week, I did do the Appalachia Visited Road Race -- which I still brag/bitch about under the right conditions -- but that's one of the last races that I did.  Even though I tried, half-heartedly, to do some road running races in the spring of that next year (2012), by the time I finished the Decker's Creek Half-Marathon in early June of that year I knew I was done with that shit.  What racers pay for the privilege(?) of waking up way too damn early on weekends to spend a few hours or less doing what they've been training hours and hours over weeks and weeks to do is just not worth it.  So I think it was about halfway through that race (the course for which I do enjoy running) that I decided that I'd rather be at camp, drinking with my friends, enjoying shenanigans, debauchery and other merriment.

So quit racing I did, and since then I've taken quite an adverse attitude toward racing as well.  I just don't quite understand anymore why someone would choose to do that.

Because racing had been rather central to this blog I had always been hesitant to continue it.  I assumed that readers expected to see blog posts related to racing or athletic pursuits in general.  Well, if they did, then that's too damn bad.  This is Everything Cate, and I'm not into racing anymore.

So this isn't where you'll read about PRs, bonking and what various race courses are like.  This is the place where you never know just what you'll read.

So you've got your choice of three different ways to go:
  1. Read it and like it,
  2. Read it and don't like it
  3. Don't read it.
